i think that's what's so wonderful about having a faith, we're taught that there are no coincidences in the world, that when you're meant to hear something, see something, encounter something, it all comes together.

.blessings.
timing is everything. i had scheduled a locksmith to make a key for my landlord's car and we had agreed he would stop by any time b/t 10-11 today. well as 1130 rolled around, i started to get a little nervous thinking that maybe i screwed up all my appointment times. i left a message over at the clin ed office and she called me back at 1150 telling me we were scheduled to meet at 12. oops. all good, we pushed it to 115 so she could get lunch. the locksmith finally showed up at 12. yeah. i dunno but that was done and when i got to the clin ed office, it was like, okay, let's get this show on the road. i had narrowed down my options to another hospital in st. petersburg and a peds place in bradenton. i asked her more about the hospital, but was dismayed to learn that it was offering outpatient and hands, both of which i had NO desire to shadow in. upon asking about the peds place, she had told me it was taken...by the girl who had gotten the cancer center spot for IIB! it seems they had canceled her but taken me! so it was a true blessing in disguise! if things had happened the way i wanted them to, i would've been canceled out of that spot! so my fieldwork coordinator started searching for more peds sites or places that would offer peds in combo with other populations. then she stopped and said, oh, how bout this pediatrics place in lakeland which is in south orlando? i didn't remember seeing it on our list, and she went searching for the paperwork after realizing it wasn't filed in our master list. after some detective work, she found the paperwork. it hadn't been filed b/c it had just came in. i was blown away. talk about timing! she said that it's a good thing i came in when i did, otherwise, we might not have considered this place!
the rest of the day was just a wowers. i had inadvertantly traded in my ethernet cable for my wireless router instead of just securing a new one from comcast. i went in and explained my situation and they were able to find it and return it back to me, and then i was able to finally fix my wireless router to my computer.
i just felt like, wow, so many great things have fallen in place today and i just felt really happy, which i haven't felt in a really long time, and i feel blessed i get to share that with you.
please pray i get confirmed for that lakeland site, or you'll soon be seeing a blog about how i went about trying to find yet another site to take me!

.refresh.

say hello to my little friends! the one on the left is basil, and the one on the right is lavender. i bought them while i was out at the farmer's market today. it was an incredible find, especially after talking with a dear friend about how much i wanted a basil plant. so i paid 5 dollars for the plants, and then went to home depot afterwards for the pots and soil. all under 10 dollars and a total of one hour. it's funny how the little things can be such gifts! i've been so funky lately, battling family issues in my head and in my dreams. i made some brunch and caught suzie orman on public television. in just 5 minutes, she changed my whole outlook on life. just like that, in 8 simple words.
Harmony-Balance-Courage-Generosity-Happiness-Cleanliness-Beauty-Wisdom.
if you can get your thoughts, words and actions to be one in the same, you have acheived harmony. if you have harmony, you can establish balance. once you have balance, you can be courageous....and so on. her words made me want to be a better person. like right after, i realized how i needed to change my line of thinking. for instance, i could be annoyed with the fact that my coffee filter folded over and coffee grinds got in my coffee, but you know what? i'm not going to let that ruin my day. instead, i'll just make another pot. simple as that.
so empowering! and then we can be good role models to our friends that are struggling with any of these areas in their lives. what a great gift. <3

maybe i'm just a huge sap when it comes to kindness because i just don't see it as often as i wish i could. but anyway, i'm glad i got to read that today. it convicts me to keep going in this master's program so that i'll be able to help people in a great way in the future. =)

.indeed.
not only is january 2009 a time to make resolutions for the whole year, more than ever, i have realized that every day is an opportunity to become a better person, to recognize one's own flaws and faults and improve on them. i may get it wrong every single day, but i need to at least acknowledge if i had tried to get it right.
it's about hope for humanity. there are some really good people out there. we need to give them a bit more credit.
happy birthday MLK. thanks for the lessons.

as you can imagine, i struggled with my dreams versus reality and now have found a happy medium. i know that as an OT i will be able to serve the needs of many people and help them become more independent in a world that doesn't always nurture them. and as long as i can gain my financial indpendence from my parents, then will i be truly able to follow through with my dreams and God's plan for my life. that's the only thing that matters to me, is making Him happy. i can forgo things of this world, if only to gain more love from Him. honestly. i know then will the joy return to my own heart.

okay so this was my kitchen floor yesterday morning when i was stumbling around at 6am to get some last minute studying in before my physiology final. some kashi cereal fell on the floor when i went to pour it, and normally i would throw a profanity out and immediately clean it, but at 6am, i stared at the floor and shrugged my shoulders and walked away. it was so liberating! it was so...sleeping with the enemy redeeming where she leaves the towels uneven. it wasn't going to hurt anyone, so i just left it. it was awesome. i don't think it was an "accident" per se, but a sign of needing to let the hair down a little bit more. i really hope i passed anatomy. i don't know what i will do if i didn't. i'll find out tomorrow i think.
it's the only thing i really want for christmas.

this was my view on my way to school one morning. i couldn't help but take a picture because it was truly breathtaking. i'm a big nature appreciater, meaning, i'm not necessarily the camper-walk-through-the-grass-barefoot kinda gal, but i LOVE star gazing, moon gazing, sunset gazing, rainbows and such. i think what i love so much about it, is that it helps me feel connected to something greater. it renews my faith, because it makes me think about Him wanting to make us happy, to create something so beautiful that would remind us of Him. whenever i get all granola happy, i think about all the places i still want to see in this world. i don't want to keep on waiting. i want to do it while i'm still healthy and able to carry a 30 pound pack on my bag while trekking up a trail on a mountain in ecuador. i want to appreciate that i still have all my senses, that i can see, hear and feel these things. we just gotta live our lives, and it's unfortunate that we get all sucked into our work worlds that a lot of the time perpetuate monotony. so i will try too, to get out there, to not be afraid to get my hands dirty and to take the time to gaze at the stars a bit more.go ahead, find Leo's Heart tonight.

.quiz me.
one of the biggest lessons i have learned in moving down here, is that you can't be afraid to go off the path a bit, and take a leap of faith into something new. i debate leaving every other day, but one day i will be a great occupational therapist and help make this world a better place to live in. then after i make the money i want to, i'll travel the world, with or without that special someone.
who freakin knows? that's actually quite refreshing, to know that you don't know because anything is truly possible.

.joy.pain.
so while i was there, my hot best friend leaves me a text which states, "let me know when you got a free sec, got some cute news for you." as i was leaving, i called her, and before she could say anything, i said, "okay, so tell me who's either pregnant or getting married." she just starts laughing, because i was right, her sister-in-law is due in april. so true though, right? seems we're at that age. yuck and yuck.

.love yourself.
St. Therese of Lisieux
i saw this reflection and it brought me back to my meeting this morning that i had with my physiology professor where i was determined not to break down, and then proceeded to cry when i tried to tell him that i am hardest on myself. i felt as if my heart was ripped out of my chest when i explained to him that i have no friends or family down here, but that i am trying to make this place my home. and he just let me cry as i kept apologizing for crying and trying to compose myself enough to get some words out of my mouth. i was glad i talked to him though, because he helped me reaffirm the belief that somehow along the journey, is starting to slip from me. and i want to do so well. oh my gosh, i want to really wow everyone. i don't want to be the dumb girl.
this song has been helping me through the week:
"You're Not Alone" by Meredith Andrews
I search for love, when the night came, and it closed in, I was alone, but you found me, where I was hiding, and now I'll never ever be same, it was the sweetest voice, that called my name sayin
You're not alone, For I am here, let me wipe away your every fear, My love I've never left your side, I have seen you through the darkest night, And I'm the one that who's loved you all your life, All of your life
You cry your self to sleep, cause the hurt is real, and the pain cuts deep, all hope seems lost, with heart ache your closest friend, and everyone else long gone, you've had to face the music on your own, but there is a sweeter song that calls you home, saying
You're not alone, For I am here, let me wipe away your every tear, My love I've never left your side, I have seen you through the darkest nights, And I'm the one who's love you all your life, All your life
Faithful and true... Forever, For my love will carry you...
You're not alone, for I... I am here, let me wipe away your every fear... Oh yeah, My love I've never left your side, I have seen you through your darkest night,
Your darkest nights, And I'm the one that's loved you all your life,
All of your life

camp was amazing. just when you start to get too tired, you have someone remind you why you are there. this is the one week of the year that this child is the center of the universe in a world that would normally reject him or her. this camp puts the emphasis on being truly special and important in our eyes. these kids are simply amazing and really do teach us how to be better people, to be tolerant, patient, loving, gracious, humble and less self-centered. it's difficult to care only about yourself when you realize how much people around you need your attention and help. truly amazing. and the amount of affirmation i received from my peers was overwhelming. i wish i could pack up these people and bring them with me to florida, because it wouldn't make it as scary. but we'll see each other again. i pray and hope i do, because it is so essential to my life more than ever.

.recoup.
this weekend i'm kicking it off with dinner with a.tess and i'm looking forward to that. it's important to be surrounded by strong women. women that will build you up and help you to grow. tomorrow i'll be at the shore for the first time this summer, but still not on the sand, and that's quite alright. it will just be nice to be around my camp fatties. sunday's m & g's housewarming. i feel like i've been warmed up the place enough with my numerous sleepovers, but i love an occasion for us to get together. i can't believe it's the first of august. time is just absolutely flying by, and i'm trying my best to fit in all the jersey stuff. i get kind of teary eyed when i'm around my godson. he's growing way fast and it makes me sad that i won't have the luxury of stopping by after work to just hang out with him and his awesome family.
we take sooooo much for granted. it's easy for us to go through the motions, and we get stuck in ruts and routines, but honestly, nothing is forever. i will turn around and say goodbye to someone at some point for the rest of my life. that will never go away. and it will never be easy. once again, we must live our lives to the absolute fullest.
"Fear less, hope more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Hate less, love more; And all good things are yours."
